Mountain Ecosystem Management

For more than 10,000 years, Andean landscapes have been shaped by human populations that have constructed cultural landscapes, drawing from the exceptional biological and geographic diversity of these tropical mountains. TMI projects in Cordillera Blanca, Peru, illustrate our approaches to participatory ecosystem management.

The Paramos are the main source of water for the Northern Andes. They are well known for traditional medicinal plants and places of spiritual healing in Peru.
